In this free step-by-step crochet stitch tutorial I show how to make the column and lace stitch. This stitch is a lacy crochet stitch. The fabric turns out light and breathable. It works great for shawls and wraps, lightweight scarves, lacy crochet summer tops and tanks, market bags and other summer crochet projects. This stitch can also be used in decorative crochet projects for the home.
This crochet stitch tutorial includes photo instructions and a video tutorial (see below). The column and lace stitch is a two-row repeat. For this crochet stitch you should know how to make single crochet and double crochet. This stitch is very easy to make and suitable for beginners.
Materials and tools
Yarn: For this tutorial I use Soft FRAYA Cotton 8/4 100% Organic cotton 50g – 180 m yarn, color: dusty tulip. However, you can use your favorite yarn depending on the crochet project.
Hook: I use a 2.0 mm hook. If you are using a different yarn, choose the hook size that is recommended on your yarn label.

Row 1
1. Start by chaining a multiple of ten plus five. You will start working in the fourth chain from your hook.
2. So, make a double crochet in the fourth chain from your hook.
3. Make another double crochet in the next stitch.
4. Chain three.
5. Skip two stitches and make a single crochet in the next stitch.
6. Then make two more single crochets in the next two stitches.
7. Chain three.
8. Skip two stitches and make a double crochet in the next stitch.
9. Make two more double crochets in the next two stitches.
10. Chain three.
11. Skip two stitches and make three single crochets in the next three stitches.
12. Chain three.
13. Skip two stitches and make three double crochets in the next three stitches.
14. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row. The row should end with three double crochets.
Row 2
15. Chain one and turn your work around. Chain one does not count as a stitch.
16. Make a single crochet in the very first stitch.
17. Then make two more single crochets in the next two stitches.
18. Chain three.
19. Make three double crochets in the three single crochets of the previous row.
20. Chain three.
21. Then make three single crochets in the three double crochets of the previous row.
22. Chain three.
23. Make three double crochets in the three single crochets.
24. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row.
25. Make the last single crochet of the row in the turning chain.
Row 3
26. Chain three and turn your work around. Chain three counts as a stitch.
27. Make a double crochet in the second stitch.
28. Then make one more double crochet in the next stitch.
29. Chain three.
30. Then make three single crochets in the three double crochets of the previous row.
31. Chain three.
32. Make three double crochets in the three single crochets.
33. Then repeat: chain three, make three single crochets in the three double crochets, chain three and make three double crochets in the three single crochets.
34. Continue working in the same way until the end of the row. The row should end with three double crochets. For the rest of the pattern repeat rows 2-3.

35. Done!
